The Vogue American Express Fashion Night Out kicks off next week and is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors to CBD retailers and shops.
Hundreds of retailers and brands will participate in the event, which starts on Thursday, October 20.
The night’s program will give retailers the opportunity to engage with shoppers through existing and new in-store specials and will feature win-win promotions, live runway shows, fashion Q&As and musical performances.
As title sponsor, the City of Sydney is contributing $170,000 in cash and in-kind support to encourage visitors to attend the event and explore the city centre.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out had become a go-to event for many Sydneysiders – “and not just for fashionistas”.
“The pandemic has made an already challenging retail environment nearly impossible for many,” Moore said.
“Vogue American Express Fashion Night Out returns to the city center as a live, one-day event, benefiting both our retailers and the hard-hit hospitality sector.
“The event flies the flag of optimism, signaling that the city is buzzing – that Sydney is once again the vibrant, vibrant and attractive place it always was.”
The international fashion event first started in New York in 2009 to celebrate shopping and support the fashion industry during the global financial crisis. The event was then celebrated in shopping centers around the world, including Madrid, Milan and Tokyo.
According to the City of Sydney, the Australian event has helped overcome challenges facing the retail industry since 2012 by creating a platform for retailers to connect with existing and new audiences, leveraging the Vogue brand.
In 2019, an estimated 206,000 people attended the Sydney event, with an average spend of $244, and more than 200 retailers participated. The event had an economic impact of approximately $45.5 million on the downtown retail sector.
Vogue American Express Fashion Night Out will take place on Thursday, October 20 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
