In preparation for this column, I read recent news about scientific studies and the harm reduction aspects of vaping. All I saw was doom and gloom in the headlines. Not to mention I’ve seen alarm and more fear about youth vaping.
One such headline was published on the “motherhood” news site SheKnows.com and simply republished through the Yahoo search engine to avoid paywalls and post restrictions.
The title reads: “In the midst of the pandemic, teenagers are once again steaming.” Turning to the article, the journalist who wrote it reported on the latest results from the National Youth Tobacco Survey conducted by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration.
The survey indicates that young people are still vaping, despite measures taken by the federal government (including raising the minimum legal sales age under President Donald Trump) and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the nation’s health despite. general public health infrastructure.
This article was hard to read and I came to a conclusion that some people are reluctant to think about.
My thoughts on this
Let’s be honest. The nicotine vaping industry faces the challenges of monopolization and regulatory interference, making it a much riskier economic segment than it was a few years ago.
The way I see it, marijuana is still in this stage of humble beginnings.
The FDA and the past three US presidents have essentially destroyed the domestic vaping market, leaving the world’s largest tobacco companies to gobble up small businesses, do-it-yourselfers, synthetic manufacturers and others. One thing these big tobacco companies have in common is that they have an unlimited amount of money and resources to influence public opinion, public policy, and public health in ways that are favorable to them. Where does this post leave the vaping industry?
The future of nicotine vaping remains uncertain, but the outlook is not bleak. At least in the United States and many countries in the Western Hemisphere, the legalization of marijuana offers a sustainable and virgin market for growth and innovation for the vaping industry. Legalizing marijuana is key
The whole concept of vaping evolved from humble beginnings and innovations by consumers looking for new ways to use nicotine and eventually transition from the extreme act of smoking.
The way I see it, marijuana is still in this stage of humble beginnings. It’s true that there is an emerging medical marijuana industry in the United States, which is a hot spot in several states of the union. Colorado has become the first state in the country to legalize the recreational possession of marijuana and regulate the sale of marijuana to persons 21 and older. However, the legalization drive has finally reached fever pitch, and 19 of the 50 states in the United States have already legalized the recreational sale, possession, and private use of marijuana for adults.
Marijuana is expected to grow in the US and Europe, and the vaping industry is already invested in this growth.

With more states adopting legal weed, it’s only a matter of time before national efforts reach a peak and Congress finally takes action to legalize recreational marijuana across the country.
Despite this, marijuana has developed and is developing into a cross-industry industry where it has been legalized. And with that, the rise of marijuana vaping and the expansion of this segment is indicative of what the vaping industry can expect in the future.
Continued growth of marijuana and public perception from 2022
The market research company Grand View Research, projects the value of the domestic legal marijuana industry will be 102.2 billion dollars in 2030. By 2022, according to the same market research report, the domestic market will be 16.7 billion dollars. Grand View projects a CAGR of 25.5 percent between now and 2030 based on total market data from 2016 to 2021.

That, my friends, is crazy growth. According to more conservative estimates, domestic marijuana growth will barely exceed $10 billion by 2022. However, I prefer to believe Grand View Research’s predictions. I digress though. I don’t need to be more specific, but marijuana is expected to grow in the US and Europe, and the vaping industry is already investing in that growth.
Let’s try to look at some of them from another perspective of growth potential polling data for upcoming elections.
In the United States, 3 out of 5 voters support legal marijuana nationwide. Morning Consult and POLITICO recently published these findings, which examine current political and economic views on the topic. 3 out of 5 is 60 percent of all American voters, based on the model the poll used to measure opinion. Only 27 percent said marijuana should remain illegal nationally. These are also similar numbers to another survey conducted by Morning Consult and POLITICO in December 2020. Seventy-one percent of Democratic voters, 61 percent of independent voters and 47 percent of Republican voters support legalizing marijuana, proving that this is a very bipartisan issue.

Keep in mind that 41 percent of Republican voters oppose the concept of legal marijuana nationwide. People of color are more likely to support legalization. 58 percent of voters of European origin support legalization. The majority of voters under the age of 65 support legalization in all age groups. It is also widely believed that the war on drugs has made the prohibition of marijuana much worse.

Regulators are more open to reforming marijuana than vaping
In another component, the federal government is more willing to work on reforming and boosting access to legal marijuana. Health and Human Services Minister Xavier Becerra recently announced department, including the Food and Drug Administration, to review the legal status of marijuana, or in other words, the schedule, as quickly as possible, as directed by the White House and President Biden. The department is working with the Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Agency to take a very fair and balanced approach to the descheduling of marijuana and subsequent decriminalization.
This is very important to note, as these same agencies have in some respects even more limited access to nicotine products than ever and continue to sell tobacco cigarettes. Mind you, I find this very hypocritical. But in a state of pure pragmatism, the fact that the Department of Health and Human Services is willing to take the president’s directives seriously is an element of confidence that marijuana will remain at the forefront.
In summary, these reasons fuel my thesis: the future of vaping depends on the legal marijuana market. While some of you are opposed to the concept of legal marijuana, the vaping industry has already integrated into the growing segment of marijuana.
There are THC vapes, CBD vapes, and plenty of marijuana derivatives that are further integrated into vaping products and vaping consumer culture. There is still a lot to do, but I still see a future where vaping exists and thrives.
